Field II

In the last few weeks, I have agreed a sales relationship with Gallerytop, a lovely gallery in Rowsley, near Bakewell in Derbyshire. I’m particularly pleased that this has come about, as the gallery’s owners, Gill Wison and Keith Logan, are very supportive of printmakers and their work. This was demonstrated recently, when they hosted around 150 original prints from Leicester Print Workshop’s Small Print International for just over a month during January and February 2017.

I think that the agreement is vindication for the careful and systematic approach I have taken to finding galleries to work with. For over two years, I have travelled to visit galleries that show and sell the work of printmakers in surrounding counties in the East Midlands, plus others in the wider region, including Cambridgeshire and Norfolk. Although the initial sifting took place through looking at websites, there is no substitute for visiting galleries and talking to owners. In this way, I could see the spaces, look at what they were selling and assess their attitudes and levels of commitment to printmaking. Most importantly, I could then ask directly if they liked my work – there’s no point pursuing a gallery if this is not the case.

Initially, I have 16 prints at Gallerytop, presented unframed in window mounts.

STOP PRESS! I just visited the Gallerytop site to check the details of my listing for this post, and Field II (above) has been sold!!

I’m hoping that the relationship with Gallerytop will grow, but right now, I couldn’t be more pleased.
